PROGRAM AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

          Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine; The aims and objectives of education, research and health services are clearly defined and strive to improve their infrastructure and facilities accordingly.

Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine; defined the institutional goals and objectives for the pre-graduate and post-graduate medical education in 2015, consistent with the National Core Education Program (CEP), taking into account rapid changes in preventive medicine, disease diagnosis and treatment methods and health care delivery. The mission and vision of our faculty has been updated in 2012 and is determined as below:

MISSION

The mission of Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine is to educate physicians who produce global information, take scientific thought as a guide, have life-long learning attitudes and skills, are inquisitive, contributing and sharing, have human values and occupational ethics, know about the health problems in the country, can make exact diagnosis and provide appropriate treatment, can apply preventive medicine, and contribute to the development of the country as well as to universal development; to conduct international scientific research that prioritizes national benefits and to provide the public with health services required by contemporary medicine with a sense of quality. 

 

VISION

The vision of Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine is to be an institution that becomes a national leader thanks to the high quality of education, research and health care services it provides, is internationally recognized, open to up-to-date approaches and technological developments, uses the results of scientific research effectively for the benefit of the health and economy of the country, is taken as an example due to its productive, sharing and well-planned work, and has a team spirit.

The aim of our faculty's pre-graduate education program is to educate physician-executives who:

1. treat the patient with a holistic approach as an individual, and a component of family and society, and to provide him/her with high-quality, comprehensive and permanent individual care

2. determine which technology is affordable and ethically appropriate while maintaining the service s/he provides

3. are good communicators who enable individuals to protect and improve their health by effectively informing them about the  requirements for a healthy life

4. are community leaders gaining the trust of people in his/her working environment, being able to mediate for individual and social needs, and launching initiatives on behalf of the community

5. can work in harmony with individuals and institutions in order to meet the needs of patients and the society, and use health data in appropriate ways.

In order to achieve these goals, the objectives of our faculty's training program are;

1. to enable our students to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes vital for successfully implementing postgraduate medical education and general practitioner practices,1. to enable our students to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes vital for su
2. to provide a core program that integrates basic medical concepts into clinical knowledge and patient interviews, and physical examination skills and practice,
3. to equip students with features that help them adopt ethical, respectful and sensitive approaches towards patients and other health professionals,
4. to ensure that students have acquired independent, critical thinking skills, communication skills and life-long learning skills.

Research objectives of our faculty are;

  • roviding universal scientific products in line with the principles of the institution,
  • planning and implementing international, national and institutional research and projects in the field of medicine, sharing their results and development of new research methods,
  • understanding and observing research ethics principles and codes,
  • understanding, using and effectively presenting basic concepts and principles, approaches and models of the medical field and related sciences,
  • participating in research and projects aiming to evaluate and improve medical and health policies at international, national and institutional levels,
  • supporting the projects with research fund by increasing the resources allocated for research,
  • educating scientists who are based on reason and science, integrated into the world of science, and able to turn the research power into social utility,
  • increasing the quality of publications as well as increasing the number of publications in SCI group journals.

Service goals of our faculty;

Besides education and research studies, Eskisehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine offers public health care services that are in line with current approaches and that contributes to the training of our students and research assistants it is to present our health care service with the medical education provided through the university hospital. Our hospital has had the national quality certificate since 1999.

Characteristics of the objectives of the training program

KNOWLEDGE

To educate physicians who will be able to:

  • recognize the normal structure and functions of our body, its cellular and biochemical mechanisms as a whole,
  • analyze the genetic, developmental, metabolic, toxic, microbiological, autoimmune, neoplastic, degenerative, traumatic and environmental causes and the evolution mechanisms of diseases and identify the changes they cause in human body,
  • list and interpret clinical, laboratory, radiological and pathological findings of common diseases, which cause disability and / or death,
  • choose proof-based, efficacious methods of diagnosis and treatment,
  • recognize diseases which are life-threatening and require urgent intervention, evaluate first treatment options, and guide as needed
  • become aware of legal and professional responsibilities and obligations related to judicial cases,
  • interpret critical thinking methods in order to solve case-based problems,
  • explain the psychological, social, cultural and economic factors that have adverse effects on human health,
  • explain the ethical concepts and principles of the art of medicine and interpret ethical issues,
  • evaluate the legislation on medical practice and patient rights,
  • define the presentation, organization and financing of health services in our country,
  • plan, conduct and report research on community health,
  • evaluate the general health problems of our country,

SKILLS

  • get detailed and reliable anamnesis,
  • give a complete and thorough physical examination,
  • correctly use the basic diagnostic methods required to diagnose diseases,
  • use the basic laboratory tests that can be used in the first step •
  • use basic, diagnostic, clinical laboratory tests that could be used at initial steps
  • use basic professional skills (Blood collection, vascular access)
  • plan and implement effective, safe, appropriate and affordable treatments for patients,
  • actively follow the ways in which information can be accessed in order to respond to changes in scientific and technological developments, professional practice and community needs
  • communicate appropriately and effectively with colleagues and other health personnel, in particular with patients and their relatives,
  • take necessary precautions to protect himself/herself and the health personnel working with him/her against occupational diseases,
  • implement basic life support when necessary,

ATTITUDE

  • adopt the perspective that a physician's primary duty is to preserve human life and health by taking measures to prevent diseases, and trying to cure diseases through the use of appropriate and rational treatment options,
  • observe the principle of universal medical ethics, "do not harm first" when doing his/her duty,
  • become aware of the importance of observing ethical rules and acting in accordance with the basic rules of health economics while using health resources
  • appreciate the value of scientific thinking and critical inquiry approach in his/her applications,
  • understand the significance of updating professional knowledge throughout his/her life of medical profession,
  • assume responsibility for first aid in emergency situations as a physician,
  • evaluate each patient based on the characteristics of the environment s/he lives in as well as his/her social and individual characteristics and be unbiased and extrajudicial as an ethical obligation,
  • inform the patient and/ or his / her relatives clearly about the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, and obtain informed consent
  • respect universal patient rights, in particular privacy policy,
  • understand the importance of establishing a healthy, effective and empathic communication with the patient in the success of the treatment and his/her professional satisfaction,
  • adopt scientific, technical and ethical consultation (consultation) as a physician and patient right,
  • cope with the fact of death and the problems it creates,
  • become aware of the importance of communicating with colleagues, patients and other individuals in an accurate, honest and consistent manner,
  • accept the significance of life-long, self-learning.

Announcement of educational objectives
The educational program objectives of Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine have been continuously updated -with the innovations made every year- since 2000, and published on the web page of our faculty (https://tip.ogu.edu.tr/en/). Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine Program Booklet has also been published in printed form every year since 1995.
